Continued... In the majority of cases, children born under any or some of these environmental situations in Africa are prone to suffer from one form of maladjustment, serious infection or some physical deprivation. Faced with the enormity of such life threatening situations, many African governments as well as Non-Governmental Organizations have set up intervention programmes for restoring the lives of many affected children from the state of hopelessness and abnormal human growth and development. Despite these good intervention strategies, many of the problems facing Africa’s children haven’t melted away. The solution to many of these problems require close involvement of persons and facilities from other sectors to tackle. Collaborative Research is very necessary to resolve many of the problems resulting from the increasingly complex social systems that affect children’s quality of life. There is a need for healthy public policy, good governance, proper use of technology to create equity, efficiency and quality in the delivery of services to vulnerable children. There is need for research that can lead to a better informed and demanding public, Health sector reform, equitable allocation of resources, and responsible parenting among others. A lot of work is being done on these in the private and public sector although the results are not always published or disseminated to critical audiences. We at Daystar University recognize that there is need to create innovative, dynamic and efficient mechanisms for collaborating in such studies with the private and public sector organization. Further we are committed to provision of effective leadership for both inter-sectoral and intra-sectoral collaborations in conducting research. Our principal in collaborative research is one of not encroaching on one's neighbor’s reserve. We aim to avoid duplication of effort and wastage, and above all capitalizing on available scientific potential. Further, we recognize that team work spirit is invaluable as we collaborate in doing research. This is based on the fact that the spectrum of research is interdependent and so are those who work in the different segments of the spectrum. Daystar University has a good structure and visionary leadership to promote team spirit in carrying out research. The Research, Consultancy and Publications Center offer acceptable leadership in research management. As many of the problems occurring today are related to a multiplicity of determinants - economic disparity, developmental activities, the adverse effects of technological advancement, the abuse of the environment, disturbances of ecological balance, natural and man made disasters and calamities and moral social decay, the pursuit of answers to these problems needs close association with the relevant sectors and partners. |
