| The Voices of Children... |
 |
Today, over 1 billion of us are living in abject poverty. We suffer malnutrition, poor health care, illiteracy, faces future unemployment and marginalization (UNICEF, 2005). We are oppressed and exploited. We are taken to slave labour, sexually abused, trafficked, raped and made child soldiers and aborted long before we see the face of the earth that the Lord created for our dwelling. We are also facing rejection with over 1,000,000 of us living on the streets in Africa. We are in need and require action now. The bible says in 1 John 3:17-18, that we need practical help: |

“ if anyone has material possession and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Let’s not love with words or tongue, but with actions and in truth”.
We are orphaned by HIV and AIDS, we are infected and affected. The bible is clear that we should be provided special care and attention because of our vulnerability. “Religion that our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this, you look after orphans and widows, in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world” (James 1: 27).
We are ordained to praise God. Praise from such infants and children like us silences the foes and the enemy (Psalms 8:2). |

Due to the economic crisis in Africa, it is apparent that ministry to us “children at risk” is vital and should not be overlooked. Our number has increased and this offers a golden opportunity as it is at this stage that many children submit their lives to God. This is the soul winning period when you should focus on us.
Jesus loves us and draws us near to him, inviting us to come to him to experience his touch, blessings, redemption and union. The Kingdom of God belongs to us (Luke 18: 16-17). |
I know that parents, churches, institutions and the entire society have a biblical mandate to respond to our needs. In Mark 9:36, 37 we read: “He (Jesus) took a little child and had him stand among them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them, whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me, but the one who sent me.” Jesus has modeled for you all who work in our name the kind of heart, regard and attitude and treatment you should have towards us. |

You should all welcome us with love in your midst, make us part of your worship and involve us fully in the learning and decision making processes, for His glory and honor.
